Georgia PTA Elects New Officers
The Georgia PTA has dominated education news since the beginning of this year, when unexpected changes in the organization's top leadership caused a stir.  The King Springs PTA has been following the twists and turns of the state PTA conversation and is working diligently to address our local members' concerns.

In July 2017, Cobb County School Superintendent Chris Ragsdale formally expressed a lack of confidence in the Georgia PTA's leadership and requested that local PTAs withhold remittance of unit dues to the state PTA.  This request came on the heels of a warning letter issued by the National PTA to the Georgia PTA, wherein the national organization expressed concern over the state PTA's handling of its election process, among other concerns.

But the leadership battle among the Georgia PTA's Executive Committee may very well soon be over. Last week, an entirely new slate of officers was elected after a drawn out process at the Georgia PTA's convention.  The new slate of officers to lead the organization is as follows:
  • President:  Tyler Barr, Douglas County
  • President Elect:  Karen Hallacy, Cobb County
  • First Vice President:  Debbie Rabjohn, Cherokee County
  • Second Vice President:  Shanda Ross, Clayton County
  • Secretary:  Lori Sweet, Cobb County
  • Treasurer:  Lynn McIntyre, Fulton County
  • Parliamentarian:  Carol Davis
In light of the National PTA's reprimand, the Georgia PTA's subsequent elections process, and Superintendent Ragsdale's request,  the King Springs PTA Executive Committee is contemplating a course of action for our local PTA.  As King Springs PTA continues to monitor the state of the state's PTA affairs, we invite our local PTA members to get in touch with our PTA leadership and share your views with us.  Executive Committee members' contact information can be found on the PTA's website at http://www.myvlink.org/ksepta/contact.php.
